Trinity California InformationOne of the three counties comprising the Emerald Triangle, Trinity County is located in the northwestern region of California, along the Trinity River and the Klamath Mountains. The county contains significant portions of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, home to the Trinity Alps. It is one of the original counties of California, and parts of it were given to the counties of Klamath in 1852 and Humboldt in 1853. However, Klamath County was dissolved in 1876 because of corruption and widespread electoral fraud.
Trinity County has a land area of 3,179 square miles and a population of 13,622. Its cities and towns are composed of Hayfork, Lewiston, and Weaverville, none of which are incorporated. Weaverville is the location of the county government. Trinity County is bounded by the counties of Mendocino in the south, Humboldt in the west, Siskiyou in the north, Shasta in the east, and Tehama in the southeast. It is a former mining county with a rich history not only in gold mining, but also in wood production, fine arts, and many more. Trinity County’s historic downtown with old buildings, quaint shops, and charming real estate makes socializing among the locals one of the finer points of the county. The most popular man-made attraction in the county remains to be the Trinity Joss House, established by the early Chinese miners and is now a California State Park.
