Solano California Information

Located in the central part of California, about halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento, the County of Solano is a region teeming with potentials and opportunities.  One of the original counties of the State of California, it has a total land area of 829 square miles and inhabited by 411,593 people.  Solano County is a part of the prestigious San Francisco Bay Area.

The Solano County seat is located in Fairfield.  It is bounded by the counties of Contra Costa in the south, Sonoma and Napa in the west, Yolo in the north, and Sacramento in the east.  The county is also composed of several other cities, towns, and communities, which include:

            * Vallejo            * Rio Vista                * Green Valley
            * Benicia            * Suisun City            * Birds Landing
            * Dixon            * Vacaville                  * Collinsville
                                    * Elmira

Solano county’s accessibility to both the Bay Area and Sacramento make it a very attractive site for business, notably as its 3 largest cities (Vallejo, Fairfield, and Vacaville) are positioned along the Interstate 80 freeway corridor.  Its being conducive to business makes it an ideal real estate spot for professionals and employment seekers alike.  This is in addition to the fact that Solano County real estate is significantly more affordable than Sacramento and most of the Bay Area.

Solano County economy is indeed on the rise as it registered a 2.7% employment growth during the previous year.  Chief executives and medical related professions (surgeons, psychiatrists, therapists, etc.) are among the high wage occupations.  The fastest job growth, on the other hand, were registered in the fields of personal financial advisors, private detectives and investigators, computer software engineers, network systems and data communications analysts, and respiratory therapists.

Each city, town, or community of Solano County boasts of distinct real estate appeals.  Benicia, which is the first city in California to be founded by Anglo-Americans, exudes an alluring small-town charm with an abundance of history.  Most of the older homes are situated in the eastern and western sides of the city while the rest are dominated by stucco homes built between 1970-2000.  It was named the California State Capital in 1853 before it was moved to Sacramento.

Vallejo is the home of the 6 Flags Marine World.  It was also named as the State Capital of California for 1 week in 1852, and for 1 month in 1853.  Its quaint downtown features a real estate composed mainly of well-preserved Victorian and craftsman homes.

Vacaville is one of the cleanest and safest places in California to live in.  Compared to US cities of similar size, it ranks 3rd in having the lowest crime level and 1st in northern California.  This is attributed to their significantly large police force.  It also has the highest per capita concentration of electric cars in the world, resulting in a much cleaner environment.

Solano County is also known as the home of the Suisun Marsh, which, at 84,000 acres, is the largest contiguous estuarian marsh remaining on the West Coast of North America.  The county is also home to the May Fair, the longest running annual fair in the State of California.  It is held annually at the Dixon Fairgrounds.
