Sierra Real Estate

Aside from its accessibility to the said growth areas, Sierra County’s real estate appeal lies in the majestic beauty of its surroundings.  Generally dominated by lush greenery and heavily timbered forests, historic buildings are abundant and there are many fine examples of sturdy frontier architecture.  The neighborhoods are very much like what it once was over a hundred years ago when the gold miners worked the rivers and mountains in search of their fortunes in gold.

Sierra California Information

The California Gold Rush of 1848 has brought prosperity to numerous communities around the gold-rich region of the state and enormous wealth to those with huge amounts of luck or determination.  More than a hundred and fifty years later, the gold rush towns of California has brought a different kind of wealth for its people – memories of a bygone era preserved in its streets, structures, as well as in the hearts and minds of its devoted residents.

Sierra County is among the counties who struck it big during the gold rush.  Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California along the border with Nevada, the county was formed from parts of Yuba County in 1852.  Its name has been derived from the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  The county has a total land area of 953 square miles and populated by 3,434 people.  It is a land of unparalleled beauty, heavily forested canyons, the largest Alpine valley in North America, wild rivers, unspoiled mountain lakes and streams, charming gold rush towns, and century old ranching and logging towns.  Sierra County has only one incorporated town and one incorporated city – The town of Downieville, which is the county seat, and the City of Loyalton.  However, there are a few more communities or unincorporated places strewn within its boundaries.  The most unique feature of the county is that there are no traffic signals within its limits.

The county seat of Downieville was nearly voted as the State Capital of California in 1853.  In tune with its historical traditions, it is the home of the state’s oldest weekly newspaper – the Mountain Messenger.  The City of Loyalton, on the other hand, is traditionally populated by ranchers, loggers, and former loggers.  It has been experiencing a steady growth in real estate business due to the influx of suburbanites relocating from the growing Reno-Tahoe area.  With most of California real estate growing to unprecedented levels, the whole county’s real estate is currently experiencing favorable considerations, especially from the commuters of Sacramento and Reno.

Sierra County is home to more than 40 alpine lakes, mostly found in the Sierra Buttes Lakes Basin Recreation Area.  Camping, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and other outdoor activities can be enjoyed in the area as well as in other parts of the county.

Easily accessible all-year round, Sierra County is a sight to behold whatever season it might be.  With its snow-capped mountains during the cold seasons to the abundance of wildflowers during warmer months, Sierra County is more than a spectacular place to visit – It is a great place to settle down and raise a family.
